Shipping from Mediterranean to America? New charges as the effect of Red Sea Crisis

The Equipment Imbalance Surcharge (EBS) is a direct consequence of congestion at key ports, triggering a ripple effect across the shipping industry. As ports struggle with congestion, it leads to imbalances in equipment availability, resulting in increased costs for carriers. Lars Jensen, based on trend analysis using Freightify, forecasted this surge in rates in a recent article on ripple effects of the red sea crisis.

Now, this surcharge is being introduced to mitigate the impact of equipment imbalances on trade routes from WMED, Adriatic, NWC & Scanbaltic to the USA, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Canada & Mexico.

Destination Range: To the whole Mediterranean area, Adriatic, Black Sea region, and North Africa (excluding Morocco)

Cargo: Dry & IMO

Quantum: EUR 100 per unit / GBP 100 per unit (for UK)
