Maersk, a global leader in shipping and logistics, has announced a review of its Emissions Surcharge (EMS/ESS) for the second quarter of 2024. Effective from April 1, 2024, these tariffs reflect Maersk's commitment to environmental sustainability and align with the average price of European Union Allowance (EUA) from EUA Daily Future (ice.com).
The application of the surcharge extends to bookings involving Load Port and/or Discharge Port countries within the EU/EEA.
Reference Period for EUA Price Calculation:
The calculation of the Emissions Surcharge tariffs for the second quarter of 2024 is based on the following reference period:

To Date | To Month: February 15th, 2024
Effective Date: April 1st, 2024
Type of EUA: Daily Futures (Symbol code: ECP)
Average EUA Price (In EUR): €67.39
Calculation Basis:
The Emissions Surcharge tariffs have been meticulously calculated based on a reference period spanning from November 16, 2023, to February 15, 2024. Utilizing data from EUA Daily Future, the average EUA price in euros during this period serves as the foundation for determining the surcharge.

Implementation Details:
For bookings originating from China (excluding Hong Kong and Taiwan), the emissions surcharge will be incorporated into the base freight rate due to regulatory requirements. Furthermore, the base freight rate will be adjusted quarterly to reflect changes in the Emissions Surcharge.
Exemptions and ECO Delivery:
Bookings made under the ECO Delivery option will be exempt from the emissions surcharge. ECO Delivery represents Maersk's commitment to sustainability by replacing fossil fuels with green fuels, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the supply chain.
Tariff Values for Q2 2024:
The EMS/ESS tariff values applicable from April 1 to June 30, 2024, for various trade routes and equipment types have been outlined. These tariffs encompass trades between regions such as West Coast South America to Europe, North Europe to Far East Asia, Far East Asia to North Europe, and many more.
